Fukuura Bridge and IslandPosted by Japanalia (Yokohama, Japan) on 29 August 2009 in Architecture and Portfolio. Fukuura-bashi is the red footbridge which connects Fukuura island to the coast. The bridge is 252m long and the island itself is a natural botanical garden hosting over 250 species of plant life. In most recent times, swans have migrated to inhabit the island. (We haven't seen any, possibly they are here in winter.) The island has many trails that can be covered in about one hour if you have good legs. The various views that open towards the bay, the islands and the city on the coast are very pleasant. It also has a wide variety of very picturesquely shaped trees.
