Kaizando Hall behind trees....

Posted by Japanalia (Yokohama, Japan) on 14 August 2009 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

The hall that is visible behind the trees is the Kaizando Hall which commemorates Motsuji's purported founder, Ennin (Jikaku Daishi), third head abbot of the Tendai sect, and the three Fujiwara lords (Kiyohara, Motohira and Hidehira) who founded and ruled Hiraizumi. But...the 4th Fujiwara,Yasuhira, involved himself in politics bringing about the downfall of the Fujiwara "Dream Century"!
At the time we visited there (June 19), the lotus were only leaves and no flowers, but the Japanese iris was starting to bloom in the garden just in time for the Iris Festival.
