...at Horikiri in 1857, a woodblock print by Utagawa Kunitaka. It is most pleasant to notice how the colours used in the patterns on the women's kimonos meet the colours of the iris flowers around them.

I have always loved the Japanese kimonos and actually have a needlepoint pattern to do one similar to the one in the middle. My eyes are too old now to attempt it, but they are so romantic and beautiful. Lovely woodblock Gabriela.

The kimonos are quite stunning and in perfect harmony with the surrounding irises. These woodblocks are fantastic - thanks so much for sharing this part of Japanese historic art.

Ah, yes, the more one looks at and into works like this, the more one not just sees but joins in the experience of the piece. What a wonderful triptych this is.
