"Born from the universe and now in the universe, somehow I'm away from the universe. Therefore, I am lonely. I am lonely even if I am with you, but sometimes I return again to the universe. I do not know whether I am the universe or the universe is myself. At that time my heart is the heart of the universe; at that time my eyes are the eyes of the universe; at that time when I cry, I cry, forgetting everything. Surely it rains. But I am lonely today. I am away from the universe. I am lonely even if I am with you." ("The Universe and Myself" by Akiko Yosano, 1878-1942)

There are as many shades of violet as there are petals in these beautiful flowers, Gabriela. The persons living behind that window are lucky. When they open it they can smell the sweet, enticing perfume of the lovely lilac tree in full bloom. Wishing you a sweet Wednesday, Eva

Beautiful poem of total loneliness, couldn't have been an American or European poem or song. Even in loneliness one can feel connected to, and part of, a greater Being... I have a bush of exactly the same flowers in our front yard, they make the house 10.000 euros more worth :) (when they are blossoming, which is right now). I like the background which gives it a Japanese seasoning. I also admire the pictures by JGC with Japanese and Chinese architecture..

I love the blossoms but it is interesting to me that the window in the background has bars on it. I wouldn't have ever thought that bars were necessary in Japan. Maybe this is close to a US military base?

@Craig: Not at all, Craig! This is just an ordinary house where an ordinary Japanese family makes its home. As for bars, I think we need them more than ever by the day, no matter where. Japan is no longer a haven of peace!
It is definitely lilac season and they are so springlike and beautiful. There is something just ethereal and romantic about lilacs. A beautiful composition Gabriela.

I love the depth of color you captured, Gabriela and the Lilacs are beautiful; I'd like to catch their fragrance. The poem seems to written from a point of some despair, which is sad. Even in that loneliness I personally choose to find a glimmer of hope. Hugs, Judy
