"The flowering branch of the plum
Gives its scent
To him who broke it off."
(a haiku by Chiyo-ni)

This branch has fallen or been hurled by somebody in the creek running by the orchard. I like to think that the farmers have pruned the trees and the branch just found its way into the creek; it did not die, but nourished by the waterflow, the blossoms came out showing their white buttons.
